Thiago Silva willing to TEAR UP Chelsea contract after Todd Boehly criticism
Chelsea star Thiago Silva is ready to leave Stamford Bridge, according to reports in Brazil, with the veteran centre-back willing to tear up his contract with the Blues to return to Fluminense.
The 39-year-old recently signed a one-year extension to his deal at Stamford Bridge but has previously indicated his unhappiness with the manner in which Chelsea are being run by Todd Boehly.
There has been huge investment in the playing staff at the London side, yet this has not been reflected in on-field results, with the Blues embarrassingly sitting in the lower half of the Premier League standings.
It is against this backdrop that Globo reports Thiago Silva is ready to give up his final season with Chelsea to return to his formative club. A transfer back to Fluminense, though, hinges on a deal being struck with Christopher Vivell, Chelsea’s director of football.
Thiago Silva’s Boehly rant
Silva, a former PSG and Milan player, has previously expressed his frustration with the situation at Chelsea.
“I think the first step has been made,” he said after the Champions League elimination by Real Madrid. “An incorrect step, but it has been made. We can't be blaming the managers if we don't take responsibility. It's a hard period for the club, with a lot of indecision.
“Change of ownership, new players arriving – we had to increase the size of the changing room because it didn't fit the size of the squad. A positive point is that there are amazing players in the squad but on the other hand there are always players that are going to be unhappy.
“There is always going to be someone upset because not everyone can play. The manager can only pick 11 from a squad of 30-something – that's tough. Some can't make the squad, we signed eight in January, we need to stop and put a strategy in place otherwise next season we could make the same mistakes.”
Thiago Silva would join Real Madrid legend Marcelo at Fluminense should a deal be concluded.
