The FA has meted out its punishment - believed by some to be rather soft - for the improper conduct displayed by Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool's dramatic 4-3 win over Tottenham on April 30.

The 55-year-old has been handed a two-game suspension and a £75,000 fine. His suspension would see him miss both of Liverpool's final two games of the season against Aston Villa and already relegated Southampton, but the FA has announced that the second touchline ban is suspended until the end of next season, barring any further breaches of FA Rule E3.

Some believe this to be a soft punishment given the German's record of breaching FA rules.

"Jurgen Klopp admitted that his comments regarding the match referee during post-match media interviews constitute improper conduct as they imply bias, question the integrity of the referee, are personal, offensive, and bring the game into disrepute," the FA announcement read.

What did Klopp say?

The comments in question were made by Klopp after his side's 4-3 victory over Tottenham. "We have our history with [Paul] Tierney, I really don't know what this man has against us, he has said there is no problems but that cannot be true," Klopp said after the game during which he received a yellow card for celebrating in the fourth official's face.

"How he looks at me," Klopp continued, "I don't understand it. But again? He was reffing against Tottenham [in 2021] where Harry Kane should have got a red card. And I love this player, crazy player and I don't want him to get a red card, but he should."

"And it's Mr Tierney. It's really tricky and hard to understand."
