Man Utd: What Sancho needs to do to force Dortmund return
Jadon Sancho must cut his wages by a significant amount to see a return to Borussia Dortmund.
The winger has failed to live up to expectations since arriving at Old Trafford. Halfway through the season manager Erik ten Hag took him out of the squad and put him on an individual training programme.
Though his form improved, the Dutchman prefers to use Marcus Rashford and Antony on the flanks.
Sancho’s future is up in the air, with the summer transfer window looming. There have been suggestions that he may well end up back at BVB, who are keen to bring him back to Borussia Park.
With all the rumours flying around, German journalist Christian Falk cleared things up in regard to Sancho making a permanent move back to Dortmund.
Kehl is keen
Falk told CaughtOffside: “Although there haven’t yet been any direct talks with Jadon Sancho about a summer transfer, Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl is always in contact with his advisors from the Project Elite Group.
“One thing is clear: there will definitely not be a buyback for the time being. Sancho (under contract at Man United until 2026) is still worth in the region of €55m and that would be too expensive for BVB.
“Therefore only a loan would be conceivable at this point, but to do this Sancho would have to cut his €21m salary in half.
Falk continued: “Dortmund also wouldn’t pay the €14m expected for a year’s loan though a maximum of €10m could be considered.”
Sancho could mean a huge sum of money back into the transfer kitty for Ten Hag, a prospect that might appeal to the manager.
But it would take some doing in getting another club to meet Sancho’s wage.
Sancho flourished at BVB, which is why Man Utd’s signing of him caused such a stir, but things have not gone as planned.
