The right-back, 24, was due to become a free agent at the end of next season, but it now looks like he’ll be a part of Erik ten Hag’s plans for the foreseeable future.

Dalot joined Man Utd from Porto back in 2018 and passed the 100-appearance mark for the club last month – marking his century with a goal in United’s 2-0 win away to Nottingham Forest.

Speaking to the club’s official website after agreeing fresh terms, Dalot said: “Playing for Manchester United is of the highest honours that you can have in football.

“We have shared some fantastic moments over the past five years, and I’ve grown so much and my passion for this incredible club has only increased since the day that I joined.”

The Portugal international has been Ten Hag’s preferred choice of right-back during his first season in charge of the 13-time Premier League champions, making 38 starts in all competitions – and a further four appearances from the bench.

'A great personality'

Having helped Man Utd to a top-four Premier League finish – meaning they’ll be back in the Champions League next term – Dalot will be hoping to get his hands on more silverware as United aim to scupper arch-rivals Manchester City’s treble dream in Saturday’s FA Cup final.

He’s already played his part in one Wembley triumph in 2022/23, starting February’s League Cup final victory over Newcastle.

Commenting on the deal, United’s football director John Murtough said: “Diogo has a strong mentality, high standards and a great personality, and we are delighted that he will remain an important member of the squad for the coming years.”
