Manchester United have officially begun negotiations with Neymar over a potential transfer, according to reports.

The Paris Saint-Germain star could be on the move, with the French giants preparing for a summer rebuild. With Lionel Messi and head coach Christophe Galtier both leaving, PSG will have to freshen up their squad seeing as though their latest attempt at Champions League glory failed miserably.

Neymar could be another name to depart. Recently being the target of protests by the PSG faithful and said to have fallen out of favour at the club due to his persistent injury troubles, the 31-year-old has been linked with the likes of United, Chelsea and even a return to Barcelona.

Is Neymar the solution?

According to L'Equipe, the Red Devils are in 'active negotiations' with PSG and the Brazilian. Officially, PSG have not made any suggestions that they would be interested in selling, yet the French paper claims that everyone internally is on the same page: Neymar could be allowed to leave so that the side can be remodelled with a focus on 'less flash and more discipline.'

Whether United could complete a full transfer for the star whose lucrative contract still runs for several years is questionable, given the uncertainty over their ownership. Previous reports have, however, claimed that PSG would be open to a loan move.

There are also question marks about how Neymar fits into Erik ten Hag's transfer plans. The Dutchman wants a world-class number nine, something that the Brazilian very much is not, and if they actually have to pay a fee for him, bringing in that proper forward could prove difficult.

However, that does not rule out a move seeing as though Marcus Rashford can operate as the centre-forward. Perhaps Ten Hag is open to the idea of using Rashford as a full-time striker, while Neymar plays in his favoured left-wing role. Either way, this is intriguing news.
