Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is being linked with a record-breaking move to the Premier League.

The Georgian has become one of LaLiga's hottest properties thanks to his performances for mid-table Valencia this season. At 21, Mamardashvili still has plenty of potential to improve and this has, unsurprisingly, earned him links with a big-money move this summer.

Indeed, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has been beating the Mamardashvili drum for months, saying that the shot-stopper has Premier League suitors, with Leicester City previously being mentioned.

Among the interested parties were also Manchester United at one point, though the ongoing uncertainty over the takeover makes a deal unlikely.

Other big names have surfaced in recent times including Atletico Madrid and Porto, but it is two Premier League sides that would truly make headlines if they were to manage to pull off his capture.

Villa or Spurs to break the bank?

According to the Athletic, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the 21-year-old, but there is one major roadblock - his massive release clause.

The report goes on to claim that Mamardashvili has a release clause of around €100 million, which, if triggered, would see him beat Kepa Arrizabalaga's record of being the world's most expensive goalkeeper. Would Aston Villa or notoriously penny-pinching Spurs pay that? It's questionable.

But they may not have to because Valencia are said to be open to negotiating a cheaper deal seeing as though it is unlikely any club, let alone the aforementioned two, would pay that much for their number one.

Villa and Spurs could both be in the market for a goalkeeper in the summer as Emiliano Martinez continues to be linked with a transfer away and the ageing Hugo Lloris is struggling to recapture his form of previous years, so a move for Mamardashvili would certainly make sense.
