Manchester United and Chelsea have been told that they will be taking a “big risk” if they make a €150 million transfer bid for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen has been one of the stars of the season in Serie A, where he has played a major role in Napoli securing the Scudetto with a contribution of 23 goals in 28 matches. Indeed, he netted the effort that effectively clinched glory for Luciano Spalletti’s side in a 1-0 win over Fiorentina on Sunday.

Although he is simply backing up a 2021/22 season in which he scored 14 goals in 27 Serie A matches, not everyone is convinced that he is worth big money.

Speaking to SportBild, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn said: “When it’s about such a fee, we have to ask the question: does the player give you a guarantee for this money?

“That would definitely be a big risk…”

Will Man Utd or Chelsea sign Osimhen?

Napoli have indicated that they will not sell Osimhen this season, with president Aurelio De Laurentiis declaring that the 24-year-old player will remain with the club into next term.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the situation is a good deal more fluid than the Serie A champions are making out, and that if a bumper offer for Osimhen were to arrive, they would be open to selling.

Man Utd, meanwhile, are desperate to find a centre-forward. Harry Kane of Tottenham may be their leading priority, but there is little doubt that they are also interested in Osimhen, who has enjoyed three prolific seasons with Napoli. Incidentally, Bayern could be rivals to the Red Devils over the England international.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have been short of goals all season and are in dire need of someone of Osimhen's ability to put the ball in the net.

With an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €70 million, both clubs would do well to heed Kahn’s warning. Osimhen is clearly a talented player, but is not one who has justified such a lavish sum to be spent on him at this juncture of his career.
