‘100% agreed’ – Romano sure on transfer than can kickstart Chelsea’s window
Chelsea’s summer transfer window is about to get going, according to Fabrizio Romano, who has indicated that a deal that could trigger a cascade of moves is nearing completion.
After spending big in the last two transfer windows, Chelsea have been forced to sell before they buy this summer, and to that end they are presently working on offloading players.
Their first major deal is close to being done, according to Romano, who says that Mateo Kovacic’s transfer from Stamford Bridge to Manchester City is making strong progress.

“Personal terms 100% agreed – Kovacic wants the move.”
FootballTransfers, meanwhile, has exclusively revealed that Man City are eager to sign Kovacic to help them lure Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig – a move that is also in good voice according to numerous sources.
Romano reports that there is direct contact between Man City and Chelsea, with negotiations over the transfer fee. He adds that there is an expectation that the deal will be completed – but that it is not yet done.
Chelsea Transfer News Today: Pochettino CLOSING IN on Caicedo, WONDERKID boost
Chelsea transfer window unlocked
What this means for Chelsea is that they will soon be able to start making positive moves in the transfer market.
Moises Caicedo is clearly their main at present, though Brighton are reportedly playing hardball with Todd Boehly’s side over a fee. The Athletic suggests that the Seagulls are looking for around £100 million, much of which will be asked upfront and not tied into bonus payments.
Romano reports that in this case, personal terms are very advanced but that talks between the clubs will only begin next week.
New manager Mauricio Pochettino, meanwhile, is also in the market for a centre-forward, with Kai Havertz potentially leaving for Arsenal in another deal that could loosen the purse strings for Chelsea to add to their squad imminently.
