Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of a new goalkeeper, according to French media.

The Blues have been keen on adding a starting-calibre shot-stopper to their squad for several months. Kepa Arrizabalaga has never been able to live up to his record-breaking price tag, while Edouard Mendy has similarly failed to be a consistently adequate replacement for his Spanish predecessor.

Mendy, moreover, repeatedly rejected Chelsea's contract offers last season, leaving the Blues with little choice but to try to cash in on the Senegalese this summer. Recent reports have claimed that Arrizabalaga is also on the market at the right price.

It is, therefore, no surprise that Chelsea are scouring Europe for capable goalkeepers. Dortmund's Gregor Kobel, Brentford's David Raya, Inter's Andre Onana and several other big names have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge at various times, but one of their alleged targets has now made his feelings on a move clear.

Maignan rejects Chelsea

That man is AC Milan number one Mike Maignan, who has no interest in joining the Blues this summer, according to Footmercato.

The Frenchman joined the Serie A side in 2021 in a deal worth just €13 million and he has seen his stocks rise prodigiously since. He now clocks in at €39.5 million according to our Estimated Transfer Value (ETV).

Indeed, his performances for the Rossoneri have seen him become one of the best keepers in the world, which has naturally seen him linked with Chelsea in their search for a new shot-stopper. According to the aforementioned report, however, he won't make the move to Stamford Bridge anytime soon.

Chelsea thus have to keep looking for a new number one, but they may not have to look far beyond Maignan because Andre Onana at city rivals Inter is a realistic target. His club's asking price, however, may be off-putting to a Chelsea side that needs to be shrewd in the market following Todd Boehly's €600 million spending spree.
