Revealed: Liverpool's bargain Alexis Mac Allister transfer fee
Liverpool are optimistic of completing a transfer for Alexis Mac Allister this week, according to reports.

It is thought that there was a key meeting where things were sorted out. The fee will be officially undisclosed but told it could be just below £45m.

The Reds have been targeting the Argentine for some months. They wanted Jude Bellingham, but the England international now appears to be on his way to Real Madrid.
Their second choice is Mac Allister of Brighton. Personal terms have been sorted out and wrapped up. All there is now to do is the clubs to finalise a price for the star.
The midfielder will go for £45m - while FootballTransfers has his value at €33.2m, which sounds about right given the level of interest in him.
The Guardian report that subject to a medical, Liverpool are to pay the buyout clause in the Argentina international’s contract.
He iss due to have a medical in the next 48 hours and the clause is significantly less than the £60m that has been mentioned.
Other players on Jürgen Klopp’s list include Manu Kone, and Khephren Thuram, while Celta’s Gabri Veiga is also admired by Liverpool’s manager.
The Reds will be hoping to wrap up their business early as the summer window draws near to opening.
Mac Allister made his Brighton debut in 2020 and is set to be Liverpool’s first signing since they appointed Jorg Schmadtke as their sporting director.
Liverpool’s midfield overhaul
Liverpool’s signing of Mac Allister is the first major step in a summer of renovation for the midfield of the Anfield side.
Having been found to be weak in that area over the course of a disappointing 2022/23 season in which they finished outside the Champions League spots, Klopp is targeting his summer recruitment drive on the heart of the pitch.
The likes of Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Sporting CP’s Manuel Ugarte were linked with Liverpool but proved to be too expensive.
Instead, FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Liverpool have three players at the top of their transfer shortlist to join the club: Nice’s Khephren Thuram, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone and Feyenoord’s Orkun Kokcu.
