Man Utd: Ten Hag REFUSES to sell Mason Greenwood

Mason Greenwood looks set to leave Manchester United on loan, with Erik ten Hag reluctant to sell the forward.

The 21-year-old has not played for – or trained with – Man Utd since January last year, when he was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

Consequently, United suspended Greenwood, who was ultimately charged last October with attempted rape, engaging in controlling behaviour, and assault – only for all of those charges to be dropped in February this year.

Since then, United have been considering Greenwood’s future – amid widespread backlash from fans and the wider football community about the possibility of the former England international playing for the club again.

According to the Manchester Evening News, an Old Trafford source has ‘insisted’ that Man Utd are determined to resolve the situation before the start of the new season.

The report also claims that Ten Hag does not want to offload Greenwood permanently – with a loan move away from the Premier League seeming like the most realistic immediate step.

Serie A switch suggestions

Serie A trio Juventus, AC Milan and Roma have all been linked with Greenwood – who has scored 35 goals in 129 first-team appearances for United, having progressed through the club’s youth ranks.

Ten Hag has largely stayed tight-lipped since the news that all the charges had been dropped, responding rather vaguely when asked about Greenwood’s future in an interview with The Times last month. He simply said: “[He] showed in the past that he is capable of doing that [performing the centre-forward role.”

In a statement released following the dropping of the charges, United explained: “The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”
