Man Utd's pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount apparently hangs in the balance this morning (Sunday) after a wild 24 hours in this summer transfer window.

Multiple reports late on Saturday had United leaving the negotiations for England star Mount after their third bid for the 24-year-old (believed to be £55m) was rejected.

Those reports also suggested that Erik ten Hag was ready to switch his attention from Mount instead to Brighton's Moises Caicedo - ironically also a Chelsea transfer target.

Just before Saturday became Sunday we had a further update - this time from ace transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano claims that £55m Man Utd bid IS still on the table, but the Red Devils HAVE rejected Chelsea's counter proposal of £58m with a further £7m in add-ons.

So it appears this deal, while it is hanging by a thread with Man Utd again stressing they will not wait for ever to get a transfer completed, is not dead just yet.

This Caicdeo development is fascinating for another reason also - Brighton reportedly value their Ecuadorian sensation at around £80m. That of course is significantly more than Mount is likely to cost in the end. Go figure.

Bayern Munich interest adds further SPICE to Mount race

If what we already told you wasn't enough, there is yet more SPICE to add to this race for Mason Mount's signature.

According to The Guardian, German giants Bayern Munich are also interested in the England star, and have stepped up their efforts to entice him to the Bundesliga.

Current Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel of course coached Mount when the pair helped Chelsea to Champions League glory in 2021.

Osimhen MEETING PLANNED as giants chase Napoli star

Man Utd are one of three Premier League clubs set to meet with Victor Osimhen's representatives this week as the race to sign the Napoli superstar hots up.

Chelsea and surprise suitors Liverpool are in competition with the Red Devils for the 24-year-old Nigerian striker, who apparently wants a move to the Premier League this summer.

According to respected Belgian transfer reporter Sacha Tavolieri, the meetings will determine who Osimhen favours as his future becomes clearer.

One big blocker right now for any transfer would be Napoli's reported asking price - a minimum of €150m.

Time RUNNING OUT as Rabiot waits on Man Utd

Adrien Rabiot has long been a reported summer transfer target for Man Utd, but time is running out if the Red Devils are to land the 28-year-old France midfielder.

Rabiot is due to become a free agent in a few short days, and his current club Juventus have offered him a new one-year deal.

According to respected Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, hope in Turin is growing that Rabiot will accept the proposal - worth a reported 7m net plus bonuses.

It also says Rabiot, and his agent and mother Veronique, are waiting to see if a concrete offer from the Premier League materialises late in the day. Man Utd and Newcastle United are the two most likely bidders.

Juventus are optimistic Rabiot will stay with them, and not join Man Utd.

De Gea U-TURN in the mix as ten Hag counts his pennies

Do not rule out a Man Utd U-turn in the final hours on impending free agent goalkeeper David De Gea.

In the last few days it appeared inevitable that the 32-year-old Spaniard would end his 12-year stay at Old Trafford when his contract ends on June 30. This after he balked at taking a big cut on his £375,000 weekly wage.

Now though it appears Man Utd's stance could be softening - mainly thanks to the financial situation facing manager Erik ten Hag.

According to The Mirror, the Dutchman was a net figure of £120million to spend in the coming weeks, and ideally he does not want to use a significant chunk of that on a goalkeeper.

Ten Hag, who has been linked with Inter Milan's Andre Onana, Porto's Diogo Costa and Everton's Jordan Pickford among others, has several other priority positions to fill during this window - including a top midfielder and a top striker.

With the club's takeover saga rumbling on between Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a compromise between Man Utd and De Gea now seems to be getting more likely by the hour.
