New Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has hinted that he might end up living next door to Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland.

The Hungary captain became the Reds’ second signing of the summer when he completed a £60m move from RB Leipzig on Sunday (July 2) – and he’s been in touch with his old teammate as prepares for life in the Premier League.

Szobozslai and Haaland spent 12 months together at Red Bull Salzburg – who Haaland left to join Borussia Dortmund in January 2020.

It sounds like the pair spoke at length before Szoboszlai’s switch to Anfield, with the 22-year-old telling Hungarian outfit Nemzeti Sport:

“We've talked, so much so that Erling Haaland has also advised on finding real estate, and it could very well be that we become neighbours. I learned from him that several players live halfway between Manchester and Liverpool in a quiet area where privacy can be preserved, and on Monday I will see what he was talking about; I am very curious.

“And of course, putting our friendship aside during the Liverpool-Manchester City matches, it will surely be a fantastic experience to play against each other.”

Another exciting Anfield arrival

Szoboszlai joins Alexis Mac Allister – who arrived from Brighton for an initial £35m last month – as one of two exciting new recruits as Jurgen Klopp rebuilds his midfield following a hugely disappointing 2022/23 season.

The 6ft 1in playmaker – who started out with Salzburg subsidiary FC Liefering – made 62 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig, scoring 12 goals and providing 16 assists, and helped the Red Bulls to DFB-Pokal glory in 2021/22 and 2022/23.

He’s scored seven goals in 32 caps for Hungary, although he missed his country’s Euro 2020 campaign due to injury.
