Xabi Alonso wants Liverpool prodigy
Xabi Alonso is looking to add further talent to his exciting Leverkusen squad and he may have found a target at his former club.
The Spaniard has decided to remain with the Werkself for another season despite interest from high-profile suitors abroad. His Bayer Leverkusen side are coming off a strange campaign. Before his hire, they were mired in an unexpected relegation battle which cost Gerardo Seoane his job.
Following the former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder's arrival, their fortunes improved, ultimately finishing sixth. There were, however, questions about how much this was down to his coaching and how much to the exceptional quality in Leverkusen's squad.

The Werkself are generally one of the Bundesliga's biggest spenders, so they are expected to compete for European football. The upcoming season will be a crucial one for Xabi Alonso's young coaching career. A team is being constructed in his image and now he has to perform.
Alors qu’ils étaient menés 3-0 à la mi-temps, les U21 de Liverpool ont fait 3-3 face à Tottenham.
Luke Chambers, Max Voltman et Harvey Blair sont les buteurs côté Reds.

Bayer's side is set to once again be an exciting one. The full-back positions will be filled with new arrivals Alejandro Grimaldo and Brazilian youngster Arthur - unless Jeremie Frimpong stays with the club.
German international Jonas Hofmann made a shock €10 million switch from Borussia Monchengladbach and Granit Xhaka has arrived from Arsenal.

To further bolster their squad, Alonso and sporting director Simon Rolfes are said to be keen on Liverpool youngster Luke Chambers, according to The Athletic. The 19-year-old would be brought in on a season-long loan to provide competition for Grimaldo at left-back, but he can also perform more centrally.
Liverpool will, however, assess the player in pre-season before making a final decision on whether to loan him out or keep him around the first team. Chambers spent last season on loan at Kilmarnock, electing to help his club in a successful relegation battle rather than depart for the U20 World Cup.
