Bad news for Man Utd as Harry Kane advances talks with new club

Harry Kane is Manchester United's top transfer target this summer, but the Tottenham Hotspur star's talks with Bayern Munich are well underway.

United's need for a new striker is clear: Wout Weghorst failed to replace the Al-Nassr-bound Cristiano Ronaldo's goals last season after joining on loan from Burnley, via Besiktas, while 30-goal top scorer Marcus Rashford prefers playing on the left.

But until the Glazers sell the club to either Sheikh Jassim or Sir Jim Ratcliffe, or manage to offload deadwood like Harry Maguire or Jadon Sancho for significant fees, they are struggling to fund a deal for England captain Kane.

And now Bayern are ready to step in, according to reports in Germany.

Kane 'only wants Bayern'

"Bayern are in direct talks with Tottenham," reports Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg. "A new offer is still planned. Boss [Karl-Heinz] Rummenigge is now in charge. He's leading the negotiations with Spurs. [Technical director Marco] Neppe has convinced Kane to join Bayer this summer.

"Kane's signal: He ONLY wants to join Bayern!"

Bayern previously had a bid of €70 million plus add-ons for Kane rejected by Tottenham, but they can afford to go higher as they seek a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who left for Barcelona last summer.

Kane and his family are Tottenham fans, and the England man recently sanctioned the building of a luxury new house on the outskirts of London. He also has Alan Shearer's all-time Premier League goalscoring record in his sights.

But the chance to win silverware alongside his individual accolades could prove too good to turn down, and he can always return to England at a later date.

Daniel Levy, an infamously difficult negotiator, would rather not see Kane go to a Premier League rival, either. All signs now point to Bayern - if they can dip deeper into their pockets.
