Man Utd name Mount as Ronaldo's successor
Mason Mount is set to pick up the No.7 jersey - a kit number that’s been worn by a number of Manchester United legends.
It is a great showing of faith by Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman watched the former Chelsea player above all else and now it’s on Mount to repay his faith.
The midfielder struggled for game time last season. The takeover of Chelsea saw a new influx of players coming in, with Mount out on the sideline.

He had been with Chelsea since he was a youngster. He seemed genuinely sad to leave but Chelsea refused to budge on the terms they had set out for the player.
Mount opted not to sign another contract and instead has found his way to Man Utd.
The likes of George Best, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo have worn the No.7.
But there have been instances where players have shrunk under pressure - Memphis Depay being the key example.
But Mount is a clearly talented player with still so much growth to go. The rumbling of the takeover won’t help matters for Man Utd next season, but if they are able to focus matters on the pitch entirely, then it should be another fruitful season for them.

Mount is extremely capable - he is a well-rounded player who has won Chelsea’s Player of the Season twice in a row.

If he shows such impetus at Man Utd, then he will be revered by fans. No one expects him to reach the levels of say, Ronaldo - but has the ability to ensure that the No.7 jersey remains a sacred part of Man Utd’s folklore.
A full preseason under Ten Hag will help matters tremendously, too.
