Man Utd transfer nears as Romano announces EXCITING development
Manchester United’s hopes of landing Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana look increasingly positive, with Fabrizio Romano announcing a development that will encourage the Old Trafford side in their hunt for the Cameroon international.
David de Gea has not been released formally by Erik ten Hag’s team, but the Man Utd No.1 is out of contract and increasingly looks likely to depart the club after an apparent breakdown in contract talks.
The Spaniard was never Ten Hag’s favoured option in that role, and while a transfer in that area is unwelcome for the Dutchman given the long list of tasks he has this summer and the difficulty he will have in completing these due to the ongoing takeover process, few will view it as a disaster if the long-serving shot-stopper moves on.
MAN UTD LATEST: £50m striker BID, Vitor Roque HOPE and Mason Greenwood 'ROW'
Onana has emerged as the clear favoured candidate to take his place, but Man Utd have found themselves short of Inter’s asking price in previous bids. According to reports, their latest €50m offer, including a €45m upfront fee, has been knocked back, with the Italians holding out for a package worth €60m.
Discussions are continuing between the clubs, but United have received some positive news as football transfer news specialist Romano has indicated that the Serie A giants are actively looking for a successor to the former Ajax goalkeeper.

Inter in talks for Onana replacement
Romano has announced that Inter have opened talks with Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who reportedly has an exit clause that will allow him to leave for the same €9 million fee that FCB invested in him. Sommer was signed by the Bundesliga champions as cover for the injured Manuel Neuer, who will be back fit imminently.
The Nerazzurri also have Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin on their shortlist.
Nevertheless, the fact that they have started transfer talks with Sommer suggests that Inter are more than open to the possibility of Onana leaving the club after just a single season – and that spells good news for Man Utd and Ten Hag.
