Rasmus Hojlund is now on the verge of joining Manchester United after Erik ten Hag’s side agreed a reported €85 million fee with Atalanta.

The structure of this deal has been reported slightly different by different media outlets, but The Athletic claim the Red Devils will pay an upfront cost of €75m, plus €10m in various performance-related add-ons.

The Old Trafford side have been chasing Hojlund all summer and appear to have finally sealed a deal to sign the 20-year-old Danish sensation.

However, Man Utd’s huge financial gamble on Hojlund - a player with only 32 appearances in one of Europe’s top five leagues - could have a major impact on the rest of their summer business.

According to The Times’ Manchester football correspondent Paul Hirst, due to their huge investment in Hojlund, Man Utd are only expected to make one more signing this summer, but that will rely on how many fringe players they are able to sell before the window shuts on 1 September.

The report states that Man Utd’s remaining signing will be a midfielder - likely Sofyan Amrabat - however it’s not a foregone conclusion that Ten Hag will be blessed with another body in the middle of the park - Man Utd must sell first.

Who could leave Man Utd this summer?

Brazilian midfielder Fred is expected to depart this window as he has just one year left on his deal at Old Trafford. Fulham have been heavily linked, but the Cottagers have been busy completing deals for Raul Jimenez and Calvin Bassey, while they remain in negotiations with Chelsea over Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Former club captain Harry Maguire could also be on his way out, with several clubs in the Premier League interested, including Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. Serie A clubs Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan have also reportedly expressed their interest in exploring a deal for the England international.

So far this summer, Anthony Elanga, Alex Telles and Zidane Iqbal have left Man Utd for fees, while Axel Tuanzebe, David de Gea and Phil Jones departed upon the expiration of their contracts.
