Sofyan Amrabat’s proposed transfer to Manchester United has taken a step forward with reports that Erik ten Hag’s side have matched Fiorentina’s asking price for the Moroccan international.

The midfielder has emerged as one of the Red Devils’ key summer transfer targets in recent weeks and following the acquisition of Andre Onana from Inter Milan, Ten Hag has pushed ahead with the pursuit of Amrabat.

The former Ajax manager reportedly sees the Fiorentina man as the perfect player to bolster his midfield options, with Fred and Scott McTominay both linked with exits. Man Utd have already signed Mason Mount this summer, but he is seen as a slightly more advanced option than Amrabat.

The Red Devils were previously hesitant about matching Fiorentina’s €35 million (£30m) asking price for Amrabat, with the Old Trafford club hoping to negotiate a slightly lower fee.

However, Sport Italia have reported that Man Utd have now increased their offer to match Fiorentina’s price, which is expected to be accepted by the Serie A club.

The report details that Amrabat is now ‘one step away’ from moving to Old Trafford this summer.

Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were previously interested in signing Amrabat, but all three clubs turned their attention elsewhere this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, while they are still negotiating with Southampton for Romeo Lavia, Barcelona have added Oriol Romeu, and Atleti have set their sights on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Furthermore, Amrabat reportedly turned down the chance to join Liverpool in order to sign for Man Utd.

Hojlund race

Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund remains another crucial target, but unlike with Amrabat, Man Utd have not yet agreed to match the Serie A side’s asking price, which could be up to €100m, if Gian Piero Gasperini’s comments are to be believed.

Paris Saint-Germain have now also entered the race for the Danish international, but it’s understood that he prefers a move to Old Trafford.
