Man Utd Transfer News Today: NEW Hojlund bid, Madrid star TARGETED and Onana wages REVEALED
Man Utd are set to table a fresh bid for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund as the battle to land the exciting Dane hots up.
The Red Devils have already failed with a €40m bid for the talented 20-year-old, with the Serie A side reportedly expecting €60m for his services.
Now, according to respected Italian transfer expert Nicolo Schira, Erik ten Hag and co are set to return to the table with a new offer. Likely somewhere in the middle of what they want to pay, and what Atalanta want to receive.

Man Utd target Madrid star in major midfield swoop
Manchester United and Liverpool are keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid's Marcos Llorente, according to Spanish media.
Both clubs are still keen on adding another midfielder despite having already made some significant moves in that department. The Red Devils bolstered their centre of the park with the €64.2 million addition of Mason Mount, while the Anfield club have brought in two fresh faces in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai for a combined €112m.
Nevertheless, a desire to further strengthen their midfields persists and these two hated rivals could go head to head for the signature of Llorente, according to Fichajes.
Man Utd get Kim deja vu as Disasi hopes under threat
Manchester United’s prospects of landing centre-back Axel Disasi from Monaco have been hurt with the emergence of another threat in the transfer race.
Erik ten Hag’s side have struggled to get deals over the line this summer, with the Red Devils having only secured a move for Chelsea’s Mason Mount so far, although there is optimism that goalkeeper Andre Onana will arrive from Inter after David de Gea left the club.
Centre-back, though, was a position that Ten Hag was prioritising coming into the transfer window, with the Dutch manager eager to land at least one more player in that role.
Napoli’s Kim Min-jae had been United’s primary target, but they were beaten to the South Korea international by Bayern Munich after it appeared certain that he would be moving to the Red Devils.
Now the Old Trafford side are faced with a similar threat from Newcastle over Disasi.
Andre Onana Man Utd wage REVEALED with deal close
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana following David de Gea’s exit from the club.
De Gea, 32, became a free agent on 1 July upon the expiration of his Old Trafford deal, and confirmed his departure from the club on social media one week later.
The Spaniard had previously been offered a contract extension at the club, but Man Utd subsequently changed the terms of the deal, which led to De Gea leaving the Red Devils after 11 years.
Erik ten Hag’s preference for a ball-playing number one has led United to Inter’s Onana, who is expected to join the club in the coming days.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Man Utd are set to drastically reduce their wage bill by replacing De Gea with Onana.
The former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper was on a reported €438,000 (£375,000) per week deal at Old Trafford, making him the highest-earner at the club.
Pedulla has reported that Onana will sign a five-year deal worth between €6.5m (£5.55m) to €7m (£6m) per season. That works out to be a weekly wage of between €125,000 (£107,000) and €134,000 (£115,000).
United will save roughly €16m (£13.5m) per year by swapping De Gea’s wages for Onana’s and they will have a better goalkeeper in between the sticks.
Arsenal to rival Man Utd for Rasmus Hojlund alternative
Arsenal are reportedly ready to rival Manchester United for the signing of Porto and Iran veteran Mehdi Taremi as Mikel Arteta applies the finishing touches to his 2023/24 squad.
The Gunners have already signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea for €70 million, while Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice are expected to officially complete their respective transfers to the Emirates Stadium in the coming days.
However, Arteta isn’t ready to stop his summer spending spree just yet, according to reports from Portugal.
O Jogo have reported that Taremi is being monitored by Arsenal, with Man Utd also said to be keeping a keen eye on the Iran international as an option if they fail to agree a fee with Atalanta for Rasmus Hojlund.
Mourinho boss wants to take Man Utd star McTominay to AS Roma
Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking to sign a new central midfielder at AS Roma and is interested in raiding his former club Manchester United for Scotland international Scott McTominay, according to reports.
Roma have already added Houssem Aouar on a free transfer this summer, but Mourinho is reportedly still keen on signing at least one more player who specialises in the middle of the park.
The Italian side finished in sixth place in Serie A last season, while they suffered defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League final. As a result, they will once again be participating in Europe’s secondary club competition.
In preparation for the new season, Mourinho has set his sights on three potential new central midfielders, according to Rudy Galetti. Roma are reportedly engaging in ongoing talks with Paris Saint-Germain concerning Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches, while Rodrigo de Paul and McTominay are also being considered.
The report details that Brighton are also monitoring McTominay’s situation at Old Trafford, with the Scottish star potential available this summer.
Fred hires new agent as interest ramps up in Man Utd ace
Man Utd midfielder Fred has reportedly hired new agents as interest ramps up in the Brazilian star.
It appears likely Fred will leave Old Trafford this summer following the £55m signing of Chelsea star Mason Mount.
And according to Fabrizio Romano he is now being represented by a new agency - the same one as Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus.
Reports suggest Fulham would like to sign Fred, while (of course) there is interest from the Saudi Pro League.
Major Harry Maguire blow as Man Utd exit looms closer
Harry Maguire is set to be stripped of the Manchester United captaincy ahead of the 2023/24 season as rumours continue to circulate about his future at Old Trafford.
Maguire, 30, was replaced in the Man Utd preferred starting XI last season, with new boss Erik ten Hag favouring a partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.
With the England international down the pecking order in 2022/23, Ten Hag named Bruno Fernandes as his de-facto captain during the majority of the campaign, with the Portuguese midfielder wearing the armband for most of United’s games last year.
Furthermore, it seems as though Ten Hag is set to make a major decision by naming Fernandes as the club’s full-time captain next season. That is according to The Sun, who have reported that Maguire will be replaced as Red Devils captain within the next week or so, regardless if he stays or leaves the club in 2023/24.
Rashford drops the ball in embarrassing de Gea blunder
Marcus Rashford has been caught red-handed in his goodbye message to David de Gea, who has now left Manchester United.
De Gea joined the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid in 2012, but has departed the club following the expiration of his contract on 1 July.
The Spaniard was offered a new deal by Man Utd, but the terms of the contract were soon changed by the club, which ultimately led to his exit.
In response to De Gea’s exit, Rashford posted a farewell message on Instagram to thank the former Spain international for his services for the Old Trafford club.
However, Rashford forgot to remove notes from his PR manager before posting on the social media app. The England international’s post on Instagram featured a picture of himself with De Gea back when Rashford had just emerged into the Man Utd first-team.
The caption was the talking point, though. It read: “Caption ideas: You were here for my breakthrough, good luck with your next step brother @d_degeaofficial.”
Rashford soon deleted the post before re-uploading with the “Caption ideas” section removed. He also removed the ability for people to comment on the Instagram post. It’s the first time that Rashford has disabled comments on his Instagram account in over two years.
