Manchester United have made their first ‘verbal proposal’ to Atalanta for striker Rasmus Hojlund, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Hojlund is thought to be the top transfer target for Erik ten Hag, with United having already spent in excess of €115 million to bring in Mason Mount and Andre Onana so far this summer.

United’s offer is understood to be a total package of €60m, with €50m up front and €10m in add-ons, although Atalanta are believed to want at least €70m for the 20-year-old.

SOON: Why Hojlund deal will likely be accepted by Atalanta

Hojlund only joined the Italian side last summer for €17m and scored just nine goals in his debut Serie A campaign but the 6’3” striker has netted six times in six games for Denmark.

Paris Saint-Germain are also credited with an interest in Hojlund, according to Romano, although United have agreed personal terms with the player already.

The French side are understood to have offered a higher wage to Hojlund but he is thought to prefer a move to Old Trafford, where he would likely be the starting striker.

United looking to seal two signings

United have struggled to secure a striker this summer, having seen Tottenham resist any interest in Harry Kane, while the likes of Victor Osimhen, Randal Kolo Muani and Gonaclo Ramos have seemingly proved too expensive to pursue.

Ten Hag has therefore turned his attention to Hojlund, with United believing the youngster to have the potential to become the next striking sensation despite his limited experience thusfar.

A deal for Hojlund is expected to be agreed in the coming weeks and United will then turn their attention to a midfielder, with Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat the likely target for a fee of around €25m.

DEAL: United agree terms to sign World Cup's best midfielder

Signing both players could take United’s total outlay this summer to around €200m and would likely see a focus on outgoings, with Harry Maguire and Fred potential candidates for a departure.
