Osimhen, 24, was linked with Manchester United, but Napoli set an extortionate asking price of €200 million - a fee that president Aurelio De Laurentiis boasted only Paris Saint-Germain could afford.

The Nigerian international is reportedly happy to extend his stay in Naples and would like to sign a new contract at Napoli, but he wants to include a release clause in the deal, according to Sky Sport Italia.

Talks over a new deal are in progress, but there is a disagreement over the release clause. While Osimhen would like to set a €120m release clause, Napoli want it to be €200m.

That is the same price Napoli are charging to sign Osimhen this summer, so it’s believed the player does not want to sign a deal with a release clause that high in order to avoid being priced out of a ‘dream move.’

Osimhen scored 31 goals and provided five assists in all competitions as Napoli won their first Scudetto since 1990. That form attracted interest from Premier League giants, something of interest to the player.

Osimhen wants Premier League move

After being handed the 'Best Foreign Athlete of the Year' award by the Italian Foreign Press Association in early 2023, Osimhen said: “I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world is an amazing feeling for me.

"A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and the strongest league but now I'm in one of the best leagues in the world which is the Italian Serie A.”

However, he went on to admit: “I'm working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League someday but like I said, it's a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well."

Man Utd and Chelsea are the two Premier Leagues who have been most heavily linked with a move for Osimhen in the past. However, the former are chasing Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund this summer, while the latter have already purchased Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal.
