At Anfield, Mac Allister raised a high boot but it appeared that no malicious intent was there.

But the official, after a review from VAR, gave the Argentine his marching orders, ten minutes into the second-half and with Liverpool 2-1 ahead during Saturday's Premier League contest.

Naturally, the card infuriated the home crowd who felt that a red was harsh on Mac Allister, who was playing on his Anfield debut. But Dean, who was on panel with Sky Sports reviewing the incident, said that he had no issue with the red card.

He said: “He’s tried to play the ball [Mac Allister] and he’s caught him. He’s gone about shin height and missed the ball, so I have got no issues with the decision. It’s been checked by VAR and it’s been cleared so they’re happy.”

Liverpool fans rage

But fans online were not so convinced with the red. Some slammed the call, saying that it was soft and unnecessary to send the former Brighton player off.
