FootballTransfers exclusively reported that the Premier League outfit are hoping to bring in the defender to replace the injured Jurrien Timber.

And now our story has been ratified in the Spanish press today. La Ser reports that the player is asking for a move away from the Nou Camp - while Mundo Deportivio states that the Gunners are keen on bringing the centre-back into the fold.

Timber is out of action for a majority of the season after sustaining a harrowing injury in the club’s 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

He went down in the second half with a knee injury before it was confirmed that the Dutchman would require surgery for ACL damage which will rule him for months.

Our story revealed that Arsenal are hoping to land the 22-year-old before the window shuts on Thursday.

It is thought that Mikel Arteta is looking for a mobile centre-back who can play more than one position, and an enquiry has been made to his current club.

Timber's Arsenal career was only 126 minutes in when he was ruled out long-term.

Barcelona deal with Arsenal hinges on Cancelo

We were told that Barcelona are willing to let him go - but only if they agree to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City.

Barcelona would prefer to sell Garcia rather than loan him out, however, and there are Spanish teams also interested in him.

Garcia is valued at €26.6 million according to FootballTransfers' in-house algorithm, while he has an ETV of €38.1m.
