Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major update on Nuno Tavares' move from Arsenal to Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners defender is expected to depart the Emirates this summer after reportedly falling foul of Mikel Arteta. It was reported last year that the Spanish coach and his staff had become annoyed with Tavares' behaviour and the defender was consequently loaned out to Olympique Marseille.

In France, he featured regularly, becoming an important part in a side that came third in Ligue 1 last season. Despite this, his path to the Arsenal first team still appears to be blocked. German sides Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg have been said to be keen on the Portuguese left-back.

More concrete, however, has been the interest from Nottingham Forest, who some reports claimed were prepared to put as much as £30 million on the table. Now, Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the state of the negotiations.

Deal off

The Italian transfer expert has announced to his 18.2 million Twitter followers that the deal is now off. This breaking news came shortly after he reported that the talks were becoming complicated. "Understand talks between Nottingham Forest and Arsenal for Nuno Tavares are not easy — deal getting complicated at this stage," he wrote.

He then followed up with: "Nuno Tavares and Nottingham Forest, deal currently OFF — as he’s already considering different options." What those different options are Romano did not reveal.

One thing is clear, though, Arsenal will be keen to get a deal done before the end of the window. Mikel Arteta has already admitted that the size of his squad is unsustainable and offloading fringe players like Tavares is the big objective between now and the end of the month.

Arsenal paid €8m for Tavares in 2021 and they are keen to turn a sizeable profit on him after spending north of €230m on incomings this window.
