Barcola has attracted interest from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain this window, with the latter considered to be in the driving seat as they look to add yet more depth to Luis Enrique’s forward line.

Furthermore, Barcola himself has communicated to Lyon that he wants to join PSG this window.

However, his current club’s valuation is proving to be a significant obstacle in the way of a possible move to the Parc des Princes.

Get French Football News have reported that Lyon want €60m for Barcola, but PSG have no intention of spending that much to sign him.

Instead, they have drafted an ‘unnamed Plan B option’ if a deal for Barcola becomes too expensive. PSG have already spent over €200m so far this summer, while they have made a new €80m offer for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.

Barcola at Lyon

Barcola made 26 appearances for Lyon’s first-team last season and contributed five goals and eight assists in Ligue 1. He averaged a goal or an assist every 110 minutes - a rate better than Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun’s goal or assist every 120 minutes.

Furthermore, only Lionel Messi’s 11 assists for Kylian Mbappe and Kevin de Bruyne’s eight assists for Erling Haaland bettered Barcola’s seven assists for Alexandre Lacazette in Europe’s top five leagues.

The France U21 star has played all 180 minutes of Lyon’s opening two Ligue 1 fixtures of the new campaign, although he is yet to register his first goal or his first assist of the 2023-24 season as Laurent Blanc’s side sit second bottom in the French top flight.

It is the club’s worst start to a league campaign in 57 years.
