The Caicedo saga has been drawn out over the duration of 2023 but is finally set to be wrapped up in Chelsea’s favour after Brighton did their best to sell the 21-year-old Ecuador international to Liverpool instead. The Blues will pay a British record €133 million (£115m) to get the transfer done, however.

Romano has also confirmed, however, that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will complete a move for Deivid Washington in the hours ahead. He will cost up to €20m.

Deivid another long-term investment

Deivid, in line with Chelsea’s policy of handing out lengthy deals to young players, will sign on until 2029, with the addition of a one-year option, meaning that he could remain at Stamford Bridge until 2030.

The Blues are very much investing in the future with regards the teenage Brazilian. He has only just turned 18 years old and has featured in only 16 games for Santos, often off the bench. Although he netted in his first two league starts for the club, those are the only goals he has scored in his 16 appearances for Santos.

Deivid and Caicedo will be the seventh and eighth players Chelsea sign this summer for a transfer fee, with the Blues having splashed out €15m on the Brazilian youngster’s former Santos clubmate Angelo, who has been moved on loan to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.

Despite so many new arrivals, Chelsea have made around €46m on the transfer market this summer, with eight players having been sold for a fee.
