Bad news Chelsea! Toney reveals the TWO clubs he wants to join after betting ban
Ivan Toney has admitted that Liverpool and Arsenal are two clubs that he really admires after being questioned where his next step after Brentford will be.
Toney, 27, is currently serving an eighth-month betting ban after pleading guilty to 232 gambling charges, and will not return to action until January.
The forward, who has one England cap, appeared on Steven Bartlett’s ‘Diary of a CEO’ podcast and spoke of his desire to join one of the biggest clubs in the world when his ban is lifted.
Toney also admitted that Brentford manager Thomas Frank is aware of his aspirations to play at the very highest level.
Speaking to Bartlett, Toney revealed: “Whenever that time comes [to leave Brentford], so be it. My time at Brentford has been good; one of the best times of my career."
Toney continued and said that if he ever left the Brentford Community Stadium, his next club would have to be "the right one."
Bartlett then questioned: “When you say the right club, you're not talking about Liverpool, are you? I heard you're a Liverpool fan…"
After that question, Toney replied: “I have been a Liverpool fan my whole life, but I have liked Arsenal... I like watching Arsenal and how they play and kind of how passionate the fans are.
“But, yeah, Liverpool fan, Liverpool boy at heart.”
Toney wants Liverpool or Arsenal move
Toney has been linked with a move away from Brentford for some time, with Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing the Englishman as Harry Kane’s replacement - as exclusively reported by FootballTransfers - and Chelsea also keeping a keen eye on his situation.
The 27-year-old scored 20 goals and provided four assists in 33 Premier League games last season, with only Erling Haaland and Kane bettering his scoring tally.
Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson earlier this summer following Toney’s betting ban, with Spurs promoting Richarlison to first-choice after Kane’s move to Bayern Munich.
