So far this window, Mauricio Pochettino has welcomed eight new faces into his squad, although Alex Matos has linked up with the development squad along with Diego Moreira, while Angelo Gabriel has joined sister club Strasbourg on loan.

That number could be boosted by a further four, with Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Michael Olise and Deivid Washington all in talks with the club.

Chelsea’s transfer talks this week

Chelsea’s pursuit of Caicedo is the most advanced, with a €133m (£115m) deal being agreed with Brighton & Hove Albion for the Ecuador international. The west London club will pay an initial €115m (£100m), with a further €18m (£15m) in achievable add-ons.

The deal to sign Washington is also nearing its conclusion, with a €20m fee touted as the final figure. The talented Brazilian forward will accompany his countryman Angelo in joining Strasbourg on loan for the 2023-24 season.

Personal terms are reportedly close to being agreed with Crystal Palace star Michael Olise, as per the Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella, with Manchester City now looking at Stade Rennais’ Jeremy Doku.

A deal for Lavia is the most complicated at the moment, with Liverpool also desperate to acquire his services. Jurgen Klopp’s side have been chasing the Belgian all summer, but Chelsea’s interest has given them the hurry-up.

The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg has reported that Liverpool have reached a €70m (£60m) agreement with Southampton for the midfielder, but they now must convince him to join the club over Chelsea.

Sacha Tavolieri reported on Sunday night (13 August) that Lavia spent the weekend in London celebrating his imminent move to Chelsea, with the two clubs locked in a transfer battle for his signature.

If Chelsea complete deals for Moises Caicedo (€133m), Romeo Lavia (€64m), Michael Olise (€45m) and Deivid Washington (€20m) this week, as reported, then they will spend €270m within the space of seven days and will take their spending under Todd Boehly to over €1 billion.
