How much is Moises Caicedo worth?
Moises Caicedo’s Chelsea debut was one to forget as he came on as a second-half substitute and gave away a late penalty as West Ham United emerged 3-1 victors over Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
The Ecuador international’s poor challenge on Emerson Palmieri allowed Lucas Paqueta to send Robert Sanchez the wrong way from the penalty spot to score his first goal of the campaign.
The Ecuador international completed his move from Brighton & Hove Albion to Chelsea on Monday 14 August, with the west London club paying an initial €116 million to pluck him away from the Seagulls.
However, that fee could reach a British transfer record €133m if achievable add-ons are met. Caicedo has signed an eight year deal at Stamford Bridge, which could yet be extended by a further year.
The Ecuadorian played just 53 times for Brighton after arriving from boyhood club Independiente del Valle in 2021, but Chelsea were convinced by his talent and decided to go all-in to sign Caicedo from Brighton.
They followed up his arrival with the signing of Romeo Lavia from Southampton, beating Liverpool to both players in the process.
Caicedo’s transfer to Chelsea could reach €133m, but the midfielder is actually worth 3.5 times less than that.

Caicedo is worth just €38m according to FootballTransfers’ Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) algorithm, which uses an AI model to determine a player’s worth.
The Ecuador international was valued at €12.4m one year ago, and has seen his value increase after a splendid 2022-23 season at Brighton.
However, his value pales in comparison to the fee Chelsea paid for him, with the Blues forking out 3.5 times more money than he is actually worth.
Caicedo is the ninth most valuable player in the current Chelsea squad, as per his ETV. Enzo Fernandez is the most valuable Blues star - his ETV stands at €81.1m.
