Chelsea fans are optimistic Raheem Sterling can propel himself and their club to greater heights after his skilfully-taken opener against Luton on Friday.

Sterling has come in for some severe criticism since swapping Manchester City for Chelsea in a £47.5 million transfer last summer after only recording six goals in 28 games as the Blues finished 12th in the Premier League.

There were even murmurings he could leave Stamford Bridge just one short year later, with Arsenal linked with a move for the England winger in May.

But Mauricio Pochettino has thus far given Sterling his trust, and having been one of the few players who came away with their reputation intact after last Sunday's 3-1 loss at West Ham, he now has his first goal of the season to his name.

Sterling picked up possession on the right from Malo Gusto at hone to Fulham on Friday, and danced past three potential markers before steering the ball into the far corner of Thomas Kaminski's goal.

Needless to say, the Chelsea Twittersphere were suitably excited, with one fan likening the goalscorer to a prime Eden Hazard.
