Bayern Munich's hopes of signing Trevoh Chalobah to replace Benjamin Pavard have been dealt a blow with the Blues asking for silly money for their academy graduate.

Bayern are in the market for a defender who can play both right-back and centre-back with Pavard set to join Inter Milan for around €32 million, and Chalobah fits the bill.

The former academy star started 18 of his 25 Premier League appearances for Chelsea last season, but with the club paying Monaco €45m for Axel Disasi this summer and Levi Colwill returning from his loan to Brighton, his path to first-team football is congested.

The Blues will listen to bids for Chalboah, but their asking price could be prohibitively expensive.

"Bayern Munich remain keen on signing Trevoh Chalobah despite having an initial loan bid rejected," reports the Evening Standard's Nizaar Kinsella.

'Chelsea have set £50 million asking price

"Thomas Tuchel has sounded out his former defender, who is keen on the move, but Chelsea are only interested in a permanent sale of the homegrown star. Chelsea have set a £50 million asking price for Chalobah, which has so far deterred suitors."

Chalobah is valued at €39.2m (£33.6m) by FootballTransfers' in-house algorithm, and has an ETV of €41.3m (£35.4m), so £50m is slightly over the odds for the former England under-21 international.

It is not a figure that would normally be outside of Bayern's reach - they spent €50m on Napoli's Kim Min-jae, a fellow centre-back, this summer - but the South Korean has accounted for much of their summer transfer budget.

The rest has been spent on Harry Kane, with Bayern paying Tottenham Hotspur €100m for the England captain's services.

One alternative to Chalobah might be Manchester United's Scott McTominay, who anchors the midfield for the Red Devils - when given the chance - but often plays in a back three for Scotland.
