Trevoh Chalobah's hopes of being reunited with former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich have hit a road block.

Chalobah has been looking to leave Chelsea with first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge at a premium this season, and Bayern were poised to give him the perfect way out.

The Bundesliga champions were looking for a replacement for Benjamin Pavard, who has joined Inter Milan, and Tuchel was keen to work with the Blues academy graduate again, having handed him his debut against Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup in 2021.

But while Chalobah to Bayern might have looked like a perfect fit for all parties, the transfer appears to be dead in the water.

Impasse between Chelsea and Bayern

"Trevoh Chalobah and FC Bayern is close to being OFF now!" Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg tweeted. "Chelsea only wants to sell him [but] this is definitely not an option for Bayern."

It is understood Chelsea want £50 million (€58.4m) for their academy graduate, which is a figure beyond Bayern's reach after they spent €150m this summer bringing Harry Kane and Kim Min-jae to the club from Tottenham Hotspur and Napoli respectively.

Bayern have since been linked with a move for Kane's former Spurs teammate Eric Dier, who might be allowed to leave on loan, and Armel Bella-Kotchap, whose transfer price will be depressed following Southampton's relegation from the Premier League.

Whether Chalobah can find another club with the transfer window soon to close, or sticks it out with Axel Disasi - a €45m summer arrival from Monaco - for competition remains to be seen.

Chalobah started 18 of his 25 Premier League appearances last season and looks to be on the rise, but he is still valued at €39.2m (£33.6m) by FootballTransfers' in-house algorithm, making Chelsea's asking price prohibitively expensive for more than just Bayern.
