Fabrizio Romano has revealed that neither Liverpool nor Mohamed Salah has any intention of completing a transfer to the Saudi Pro League.

Rumours have been rife that Salah could leave Anfield to follow the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Roberto Firmino to move to Saudi Arabia this summer.

The Egypt international star started and scored for Liverpool in their 3-1 Premier League victory over Bournemouth at the weekend but is considering his future options with only two years left on his Liverpool contract.

Romano reports that the position of Liverpool is very clear: for Jurgen Klopp’s side, Salah is untouchable, and they do not want him to leave.

Similarly, the player is focused on the immediate future with Liverpool and remains eager to win trophies with the Anfield club this season.

Romano adds: “Both Salah and Liverpool are 100% determined to continue this chapter with this important season ahead. So Salah at the moment is saying at Liverpool.”

Given the upheaval in the midfield, where the Reds have signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo, it is little surprise that Klopp is reticent to see a forward who has netted at least 19 Premier League goals a season in each of his six campaigns leave late in the transfer window.

Liverpool planning for Salah’s departure

But while Salah plans to stay with Liverpool for one more year at least, FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that the Anfield club are already working on a succession plan for the 31-year-old.

Juventus’ Federico Chiesa and Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane are two of the players at the top of the Reds’ shortlist as they plot for the post-Salah era.

It is FootballTransfers’ understanding that both deals are with an eye to the 2024/25 season and are not currently being considered this summer – although a deal in January is not ruled out.
