Liverpool have received an offer from Saudi Arabia for another one of their midfielders, with Thiago Alcantara the reported target of Al-Ahli.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have already seen Jordan Henderson and Fabinho leave for Saudi sides this summer, forcing Liverpool into an even bigger overhaul of their midfield than anticipated.

The turnover has seen Liverpool splash the cash on Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, while negotiations over a move for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia are ongoing despite an attempt from Chelsea to hijack the deal.

HIJACK: Liverpool face competition from Chelsea for Lavia

Liverpool face Chelsea in the opening game of their Premier League season this weekend already lacking numbers in midfield and they could see another option depart in Thiago, with L’Equipe stating that Al-Ahli have made a €12 million bid for the 32-year-old.

Thiago is entering the final year of his contract at Anfield and Liverpool were open to selling him prior to the unexpected sales of Fabinho and Henderson, but an offer is unlikely to be accepted so close to the start of the season.

The Spaniard himself has also reportedly turned down interest from Saudi sides earlier in the window and is thought to be focused on Liverpool’s upcoming campaign.

Liverpool and Chelsea fight for midfield targets

The Reds have seen James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also leave on free transfers, while Fabio Carvalho has joined RB Leipzig on loan.

Klopp is desperate to sign at least one more midfielder and Lavia is thought to be top of Liverpool’s list, however they have so far failed to meet Southampton’s asking price, allowing Chelsea a pathway to sign the teenager.

Liverpool could get their own back on Chelsea though after reports that they have outbid Chelsea for their own top target in Moises Caicedo, with Brighton wanting more than €100m for their star midfielder.

With Liverpool also wanting a defender this summer, their remaining pursuits may require further sales, meaning Thiago’s future could still be in doubt, although the situation will likely continue to develop closer towards deadline day.
