Manchester United star Scott McTominay is currently Bayern Munich’s ‘favourite’ transfer target as the Bundesliga side push to sign a new midfielder before Deadline Day on Friday.

McTominay, 26, has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit all summer, but fellow Premier League outfit West Ham have been attributed with the most interest.

The Hammers could yet revisit a move for the Scotsman and his Man Utd team-mate Harry Maguire, FootballTransfers understand, but Bayern’s late push for McTominay may see him end up in Germany.

Reports of Bayern’s interest in McTominay was first reported on Sunday night, with Bild revealing that a loan swap deal with Ryan Gravenberch had been raised as a possibility.

Gravenberch, 21, started just three Bundesliga games in his debut Bayern campaign and has attracted interest from Man Utd, with Erik ten Hag keen on a reunion with his former Ajax star.

On the other hand, Thomas Tuchel is an admirer of McTominay and reportedly sees him as a player who could bolster Bayern’s existing options in central midfield.

Bild’s Christian Falk has now reported that McTominay is ‘currently the favourite on Bayern’s shortlist for the holding six position’ and that the club are now working on a deal with Man Utd and McTominay’s agent.

McTominay to leave Man Utd?

McTominay appears on his way out of Old Trafford having been at the club for 21 years. The arrival of Mason Mount from Chelsea has seen the Scotland international make just two substitute appearances so far this campaign, amassing only seven minutes of action.

His current deal at Man Utd is set to expire in 2025, although there is an option for it to be extended by a further 12 months.

As well as Gravenberch, Ten Hag’s side have also been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, as per The Telegraph, with the Denmark international falling out of favour under new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou. Ten Hag and Hojbjerg worked together at Bayern B.

A move for Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat has stalled in recent days, although it could perhaps reignite if McTominay leaves on a permanent deal.
