Lorient have agreed a deal with Manchester United to sign Donny van de Beek on loan, according to reports.

Foot Mercato reports that the Ligue 1 outfit has sealed a deal for the Dutchman, and it’s only the player’s agreement with the French club that is missing.

The midfielder signed for Man Utd in 2020 for around £36million from Ajax, but things have not gone to plan.

Van de Beek has already been loaned to Everton for six months at the start of last year, playing just seven Premier League matches, while he remains surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, who hope to ship him on this window.

Real Sociedad had been in talks to bring in the midfielder, but a deal collapsed. Van de Beek, who went to the pre-season stadium in the United States, is being pushed for a move away as the club try and to free up the wage bill.

Now it appears that Liorent are the frontrunners - having agreed on a one-year loan deal with Man Utd. It is thought that other clubs are at the table for Van de Beek, too, and it would be on him to make a decision before the transfer deadline on Friday night.

Romano speaks on Van de Beek future

It comes after transfer guru Fabrizio Romano said that the player’s future remains uncertain, though there is a big possibility that he will be moved on.

He said in his daily briefing: “As for Donny van de Beek, the Dutch midfielder remains on Real Sociedad’s list but they can only proceed with a loan deal, which is why there’s still no agreement regarding the player’s future. Sources feel other clubs could still enter the race next week for Donny as Man United try to move him on.“

It is thought that Man Utd’s failure so far to move on the likes of Van de Beek and Scott McTomiay may have impacted the Red Devils' pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat, who has been ready and waiting for a switch to Old Trafford.
