Manchester United were comfortably beaten 2-0 by Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

United managed to beat Wolves 1-0 in their opening league game but they played poorly and were lucky to win.

Against Spurs, however, the performance was disappointing once more but this time they deservingly lost.

So, there is already reason for United fans to be concerned about the remainder of the season.

FootballTransfers takes a look at five players that the club could sign to make sure they improve going forward.

Five players Man Utd could sign

Sofyan Amrabat

Sofyan Amrabat is perhaps the most obvious player that Man Utd should sign before the transfer window closes.

The defensive midfielder has been a solid performer in Serie A for quite some time, and his performances for Morocco at the recent World Cup were remarkable.

The Red Devils need someone that can either rotate with the ageing Casemiro or play alongside him at times when the team needs to be more solid.

Amadou Onana

Should United miss out on Amrabat, Everton's Amadou Onana could perform the same role.

Coming from a fellow Premier League club, he would likely cost plenty more than the Moroccan.

However, he is more of a long-term option at just 22 years of age.

Ansu Fati

Both Antony and Jadon Sancho have struggled thus far in their short Manchester United careers.

While Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri are still young players and lack the consistency to become mainstays in the team.

Ansu Fati, while only 20 years of age, already has plenty of top-flight football under his belt and could be an exciting wide option at Old Trafford if Barcelona are open to selling him.

Dusan Vlahovic

United have already signed striker Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta this summer for a huge fee of £72 million.

Although, he has missed the start of the season through injury and is only 20 years old.

A more experienced player such as Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic could be a better option in the short-term and allow Hojlund to develop slowly, rather than being thrust into the pressure cooker that is being United's first-choice centre forward.

Folarin Balogun

Folarin Balogun is surplus to requirements at Arsenal, who rate Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah higher.

But the American international scored 21 goals in Ligue 1 last season and could be ready to make the step up in level.

Unlike Vlahovic, he might not start ahead of Hojlund, but he could offer serious competition and make sure that Marcus Rashford never has to start in his unfavoured striker position.
