Manchester United have promised Hannibal Mejbri an important role in the squad in a bid to keep him amid a potential academy exodus, according to a report.

The Red Devils are set for a busy deadline day. Though Man Utd have been able to splash the cash on three major signings, the transfer window hasn't quite gone to plan for Erik ten Hag and company.

Particularly in the midfield department, there remain several question marks as the hours and minutes tick down to the closure of the transfer period. Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek were both expected to be long gone at this point in the window, yet they remain at Old Trafford and despite interest in the pair, deals may not be struck in time.

This has also influenced Man Utd's incomings - or lack thereof. Sofyan Amrabat is Erik ten Hag's priority target and has been since the start of the window. The Moroccan is keen on the move, consenting to a switch already in June, but United have been unable to muster the resources for a bid.

They have now been given a lifeline by Fiorentina's apparent willingness to allow him to depart on loan on the condition that a mandatory buy clause is included.

Mejbri promise

Regardless of what happens with Amrabat, Man Utd already have a more-than-capable midfielder in their ranks: Hannibal Mejbri. His future is unrelated to that of Amrabat as the two are of very different profiles, but a lot may hinge on Donny van de Beek.

Mejbri would be an ideal replacement for the Dutchman and the Man Utd hierarchy seem to agree. According to the Manchester Evening News, United have promised him an 'important role' in the squad should he decide to stay amid widespread interest in his services.

Seeing Hannibal leave would be a blow to Man Utd, and there are more academy graduates who could be on the way out. The same report mentions that Marc Jurado has interest from Spain, while Teden Mengi is on his way to Premier League new boys Luton.
