Harry Maguire’s five worst moments at Man Utd
Harry Maguire's time at Manchester United will ultimately go down as unsuccessful.
The Red Devils made the then-Leicester man the world's most expensive defender when they signed him for €87 million in 2019, but the 30-year-old has never managed to justify his price tag. Now on his way to West Ham, Maguire leaves behind a United legacy marred by mistakes and underperformance.
Here are the five worst moments of Harry Maguire's Man Utd career.
Red card v Watford (November 20, 2021)
It wasn't just a whammy or even a double whammy. Harry Maguire's red card against Watford in 2021 was a triple whammy. Down 2-1 and already on a yellow, Maguire mistimed his challenge and took out ex-United man Tom Cleverley, receiving his marching orders in the process.
United went on to embarrassingly lose the game 4-1 and, to make matters worse, the result cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job. It was the Norwegian who had put his faith in Maguire, making him club captain of United just half a season after his transfer.
Worse yet, Maguire was seen out and about enjoying a meal at a restaurant later that evening - which naturally caused outrage on social media.
Agent Maguire v Leicester (October 16, 2021)
A month prior to his Watford red, Maguire returned to his old stomping ground in Leicester and put in a display for the ages - and for all the wrong reasons.
The Foxes put four past a hapless United that day and Maguire was at fault for all of the goals in a 4-2 defeat, with the first probably being the worst of the lot. The defender was dispossessed while trying to dribble out from the back.

Derby shocker vs Liverpool (October 24, 2021)
Mere days after his Leicester disaster show, Maguire was again implicated in a dreadful United performance.
The Red Devils were put to the sword by a free-scoring Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp's men perfectly exploited Maguire's weaknesses in that fixture. The performance was so comically bad that it prompted the Manchester Evening News to give Maguire a match rating of 0 (yes, zero).
The game ended in an embarrassing 5-0 home defeat.
Spanish disaster v Sevilla (April 20, 2023)
Harry Maguire got a rare start under Erik ten Hag against Sevilla in the Europa League - despite scoring an own goal in the first leg - but the Dutchman surely ended up regretting his decision.
Sevilla ran out 3-0 victors and Maguire looked completely out of his depth, demanding the ball prior to the first goal but having no idea what to do with it and, panic-stricken, ultimately surrendering possession. It was the game that sealed United's European exit and perhaps also the game that sealed Maguire's United exit.

Arrested in Greece (August 21, 2020)
Maguire was detained and handed a 21-month suspended sentence in 2020 when he assaulted and attempted to bribe Greek police following an altercation.
He was found guilty and lost his England spot as a consequence. An appeal led to his conviction being quashed, but a retrial, initially set to take place in June, is scheduled for February 7, 2024.
