Manchester United’s leading transfer priority Sofyan Amrabat has given manager Erik ten Hag a positive indication that a move remains active, despite the Red Devils’ stalling pass for the Fiorentina midfielder.

Amrabat has been a target for the Red Devils for weeks, with Ten Hag’s side stepping up their approach for the Morocco star following their successful capture of Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Monday’s 1-0 win over Wolves in their opening Premier League match of the season, however, only served to underline how much Man Utd need a dynamic defensive midfielder to play alongside Casemiro, and the 26-year-old has been earmarked as the man they want.

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed on Thursday why Amrabat, who is out of contract in 2024, has not yet arrived at Old Trafford.

He is desperate to complete a move but cannot understand why the transfer is progressing at such a slow rate.

In short, Man Utd need to make sales for the Amrabat deal to happen, but the expected outgoing of Harry Maguire has not materialised.

This has put doubt on the ability of the Old Trafford club to sign the World Cup star, who himself was seen as a cheap alternative in that area of the field.

Man Utd still Amrabat's priority

Reports in Italy, though, mean that Man Utd can remain optimistic of the prospect of a deal being done.

According to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Amrabat continues to give his priority to Man Utd, despite rumours that Liverpool could return for him after missing out on both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.

If the interest from Anfield is legitimate, though, Man Utd may well need to raise the funds to complete a transfer for Amrabat soon. With just two weeks of the transfer window remaining, he cannot afford to keep stalling in making a decision over his future.
