Man Utd agreed a deal with Atalanta that will see them pay €75 million plus €10m in add-ons for the 20-year-old striker.

This represents a club record sale for Atalanta.

Hojlund has signed a five-year contract until 2028 worth €5 million a year plus bonuses.

The Denmark international completed his medical on Tuesday ahead of sealing his massive transfer to Man Utd.

Hojlund was only Erik ten Hag's fifth choice to be his new target man - as FootballTransfers exclusively revealed this week. But he has gradually risen to the top with other targets - notably Tottenham's Harry Kane and Napoli's Victor Osimhen - being out of reach.

Hojlund could make his debut in a pre-season game this weekend. Man Utd are currently due to face Lens on Saturday and Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

United beat off competition from PSG for Hojlund's signature, with the player making it clear he only wanted the Red Devils.

Hojlund explosion in 2023

Hojlund has exploded in 2023 as one of the most exciting young talents in European football.

He has scored 15 goals in the calendar year for club and country, having only turned 20 in February.

He has been labelled by some as “the new Erling Haaland”.

Just like Haaland, he stands at 6ft 4in and regularly bullies defenders physically, holding up the ball with his back to play expertly. And just like Haaland, he boasts a lovely left foot but also has the ability to dribble and run with the ball.

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini compared Hojlund to Gasperini himself a few months ago.

“Hojlund has this spirit, energy, intensity, but also technical quality that is just remarkable,” Gasperini said.

“He still has so much margin for improvement, too.

“He has very similar characteristics to Haaland, not just his face.

“He is so quick, he’s under 11 seconds over 100m and that’s not even trying very hard.”
