Top transfer to Premier League beckons for Sydney van Hooijdonk
Sydney van Hooijdonk, the son of former Premier League star Pierre, could follow in his father's footsteps and make the move to England, with interest in the forward increasing.
The 23-year-old may leave Bologna immediately and was already in the interest of, among others, Celtic, VfL Wolfsburg and Nottingham Forest earlier in the transfer period. Now Crystal Palace and Leicester City are also signing up for the former striker of NAC Breda and sc Heerenveen.
Although Nottingham Forest seems to have dropped out in the meantime, a transfer to the Premier League is still beckoning in the form of Crystal Palace.
DEADLINE DAY: Every confirmed transfer around Europe
In concrete terms, the interest of the Londoners is not yet according to English media, but nevertheless it is not unlikely that Palace will make an attempt on the final day to remove Van Hooijdonk from the Serie A.
Van Hooijdonk therefore has nothing to complain about in terms of interest, but there is no offer yet. As a result, there is a chance that the attacker will have to stay with Bologna this season, with great reluctance.
Van Hooijdonk back in Italy
Van Hooijdonk returned to Bologna this summer after a great season at sc Heerenveen, where coach Thiago Motta made it clear from the start that there is no room for the 23-year-old striker.
The former Italy international therefore did not take the attacker to a training camp in preparation, which meant a quick departure for Van Hooijdonk.
Nevertheless, the striker is still a Bologna player. The attacker made his appearance in the first round of Serie A just before time against AC Milan (0-2 defeat).
The Dutchman's father, Pierre, played for Nottingham Forest in the late 1990s and also had a stint with Celtic.
