Reports in the Telegraph on Tuesday indicated that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta had made a move for the 23-year-old star in the summer transfer window.

Given Neto’s lack of form and injury problems in recent months, this could come as something of a surprise, yet he has been a long-term target for Arteta, who moved for him in 2022 but elected not to make a bid after being quoted an asking price in the region of €58 million (£50m).

But Arsenal are in need of another winger, specifically one to support Bukayo Saka on the right flank. Neto could offer this.

Furthermore, BirminghamLive reports that the door to a move could be opened in January, when Wolves are likely to move some players on in order to fund a move to sign a striker. So far this season, they have scored only four goals in four games.

Pedro Neto to Arsenal latest

Romano has given his take on the potential transfer.

Writing for Caught Offside, he reports: “Reports have claimed Arsenal enquired about Pedro Neto this summer.

“I know the Wolves winger was a target one year ago, but I’m not aware of recent contacts. He’s always been monitored by Arsenal and he’s aware of Arsenal interest since summer 2022, but nothing has changed so far.”

Neto’s form has been promising early in the 2023/24 season has been promising, even if that of his Wolves team has not. He has three assists to his credit this season but this is unlikely to have had a bearing on Arsenal’s thinking towards the player judging by reports.

Arteta is a long-term fan of the three-time capped Portugal international, whose best campaign arrived in 2020/21, when he netted five Premier League goals.
