Arsenal are eager to bolster their midfield ranks by signing Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, who has been dubbed the ‘next Jude Bellingham’.

Dortmund have a well-earned reputation as being one of the best finishing schools for young talent in world football, with Bynoe-Gittens having joined them from Manchester City in 2020 in a deal that has echoes of the one that saw Bellingham move from Birmingham City that same year.

A year elder, Bellingham has exploded into one of the best midfielders in the world game and is presently starring at Real Madrid after making a €103 million transfer this summer.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are eager to poach 19-year-old Bynoe-Gittens from the Bundesliga club, according to a report from Fichajes, which says Mikel Arteta’s side are ready to launch a €30m bid for a player who has two years to run on his contract.

Is Bynoe-Gittens the new Bellingham?

While there are similarities between Bynoe-Gittens and Bellingham in that they are both young English talents, the comparisons should really end there.

Whereas Bellingham is a multi-purpose central midfielder, Bynoe-Gittens is a player who operates in wide areas. The present Dortmund star, meanwhile, has not exploded quite as young as his former teammate, who is receiving widespread adulation at Real Madrid.

Well stocked in the centre of their midfield, Arsenal are seeking wide talent to strengthen Arteta’s pool, and to this end the England U21 cap would fit the mould of player they are seeking. He is technically strong, has ample room to develop and is unlikely to push immediately for a starting place in the team.

Whether this would be enough to attract the teenager, who has featured 25 times for BVB is questionable, though after featuring for just nine Bundesliga minutes so far this season, Bynoe-Gittens may well feel it is worth a gamble trying his luck elsewhere.
