Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah could yet complete his transfer to Bayern Munich, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that talks between the clubs continue into Deadline Day.

It had appeared for a time on Thursday night that Bayern’s hopes of landing Chalobah, who has been on their radar for several days, had disintegrated due to the Premier League side rejecting an offer.

However, transfer news specialist Romano reports that the 24-year-old remains a possibility for the Bundesliga champions, with FCB having sent a new proposal to Chelsea.

Romano reports: “Trevoh Chalobah deal, not off at all as Bayern are still negotiating with Chelsea. New proposal sent to make deal happen on straight loan.

“Discussions continue, FC Bayern are confident.

“Chalobah gave his green light to the move.”

Chalobah’s Chelsea frustration

Chalobah has been on Chelsea’s books since 2007, but although he has been on the periphery of the first-team squad since making his debut in 2018, he has never managed to establish himself as a regular in the thinking of a succession of managers.

The closest the England U21 international came to featuring on a regular basis was during the tumultuous 2022/23 season, when he featured in 33 matches in all competitions.

Indeed, he had grown in stature from Thomas Tuchel’s time at the club and clearly remains a player that the now Bayern Munich head coach trusts.

Chalobah’s prospects of significant game time at Chelsea this season have diminished after the Blues signed Axel Disasi for €45 million from Monaco this summer, having added Benoit Badiashile to their defensive roster in January.

On top of this, Chalobah is set to suffer from the return of Levi Colwill from a loan deal at Brighton, and he will hope that if he moves to Bayern Munich on a similar deal, he can return in 2024 with a similarly improved status.
