Hodge works closely with Chalobah and branded the Blues’ injury situation as an ‘absolute mess’ on an Instagram direct message, which was leaked on Twitter.

Mauricio Pochettino currently has 12 first-team players out injured, including summer signings Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. The latter has not even made his Chelsea debut yet, but is expected to be sidelined until late October with an ankle injury.

The likes of Noni Madueke, Benoit Badiashile, Reece James, Christopher Nkunku and Carney Chukwuemeka are also out injured, although the former three are expected back soon.

Knee injuries have been the major cause of issue for Chelsea, with six Blues stars currently ruled out through a knee injury. Wesley Fofana’s is the most serious - with an ACL injury meaning he will miss the majority of the campaign - while Nkunku and Chukwuemeka aren’t expected back until late 2023.

This is not a new issue for the Stamford Bridge club either. They have been stricken with injuries for multiple years, with Ben Chilwell and James both suffering multiple set-backs over the past few seasons.

What has been said?

“Trev has a hammie [hamstring] injury... should be back to 90 per cent sprint ability by [the] end of this week,” the reported conversation starts, as per the Daily Mail.

“Most of the injuries are because the players have been loading muscles time and time again without lengthening them simultaneously... then one lunch into a tackle, or a COD too rapidly and they're injured.

“Hardly any of them do reformer Pilates or terrain work (i.e. stair sprints & hill sprints to strengthen knee ligaments).

“It's an absolute mess at the moment, bro.”

Chelsea currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, with just five points from their opening five games. The Blues have spent over €1 billion since Todd Boehly became owner in 2022, yet they would be second-bottom in the English top flight when only counting results in 2023.
