Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is expected to “come down hard” on Jadon Sancho following his outburst last weekend.

Sancho was left out of the Man Utd squad to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and following the 3-1 defeat Ten Hag hit back at the England international, stating that his efforts in training had not been up to standard.

What really ignited the feud, though, was the player’s reaction. He took to social media and released his own statement that claimed that he has “been a scapegoat for a long time, which isn’t fair”.

ESPN states that Ten Hag is expected to view this action dimly, particularly as Sancho’s post remains live – an indication that the player does not see his actions as a hasty and regrettable outburst.

Furthermore, the report goes on to explain the depth of frustration that Ten Hag and his Man Utd coach staff feel towards the player.

They believe they have been “particularly let down” by Sancho after taking what are described as “extraordinary” measures to help him during a difficult period last season.

Man Utd gave the 23-year-old an extended leave of absence after the World Cup, during which Sancho was given an individual training routine in the Netherlands. At this point, Ten Hag stated that the player's “physical and mental” fitness was the most important thing.

The manager has proven to be a strict disciplinarian since arriving at the club, with Cristiano Ronaldo notably released by mutual consent after an interview in which he criticised the former Ajax boss.

Sancho transfer rumours

Sancho’s career at Man Utd is now in doubt.

According to one report, there has been late contact made over a potential move to the Saudi Pro League before the summer transfer window shuts in the big-spending league, yet with Antony’s off-field problems and Amad Diallo out after knee surgery, the Red Devils can ill-afford to lose another attacking player.

Nevertheless, there is little doubt that Sancho has been a huge disappointment at Man Utd since making an €85 million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, contributing only 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances.
