The Blues have spent over €1 billion since Todd Boehly became owner in 2022, but they remain keen on adding to their first-team squad.

Nicolas Jackson was signed for €37 million from Villarreal this summer, but the Senegalese international has scored just one Premier League goal so far.

Chelsea have a long-standing interest in Toney, which dates back to April, when FootballTransfers exclusively reported their desire to sign the English forward, as well as David Raya.

In the end, Mauricio Pochettino’s side ended up signing Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic instead of Raya to fill a problem position at Stamford Bridge.

But, a move for Toney remains on the cards in 2024 and LondonWorld have reported that Chelsea are currently leading the pursuit to sign the Brentford star.

According to LondonWorld, Toney is Pochettino’s preferred forward signing “as he is English, at the right age and proven in the Premier League.”

Toney to leave Brentford?

Toney, 27, is banned from all football activity until 2024 after pleading guilty to 232 betting breaches earlier this year, but there is expected to be a bidding war for the forward in January following interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest teams.

FootballTransfers understand that Tottenham Hotspur identified Toney as a possible replacement for Harry Kane back in July, while Man Utd have eyed a January move since August.

Furthermore, sources have told us that Newcastle United have also entered the race to sign the Brentford star as they look at re-signing Toney after his spell at St James’ Park between 2015 and 2018.

During his time at Newcastle, Toney played just four times for the Magpies and was loaned out on six separate occasions.
