Manchester United are currently leading the race to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, as per reports, but face competition from fellow Premier League side Newcastle United.

Rabiot, 28, was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in 2022, but the Red Devils were unable to complete a deal with Juve.

However, they have now re-entered the race for Rabiot, according to Calciomercato.

The Frenchman signed a one-year contract extension in 2023 meaning he will be a free agent next summer. However, Juve are reportedly keen for Rabiot to extend his stay in Turin even further.

But, interest from Man Utd could provide a problem for the Serie A giants as they look to tie the 28-year-old down to an even longer deal.

Furthermore, Newcastle are also interested in signing Rabiot as they continue to look for more additions to their first-team squad.

Eddie Howe’s side signed Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall during the summer window, and are now keen on adding Rabiot too.

Atletico Madrid are another team who have been scouting Rabiot, but it’s understood that Man Utd and Newcastle are currently ahead of Diego Simeone’s team in the race to sign him.

Rabiot to Man Utd?

Back in 2022, Man Utd failed to sign Rabiot, despite pursuing him for several months during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils then went back in for the Frenchman this summer, but Rabiot’s mother, Veronique, was seen as a problem in negotiations.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Rabiot’s mother and agent, Veronique, demanded a three-year contract worth €10m a season plus a huge signing-on bonus of up to €10m also. So any deal would have cost Man Utd around €40m, despite there being no transfer fee.

This was deemed unacceptable by Man Utd, and Rabiot opted to sign a new contract with Juventus on the same €7m per season terms (plus bonuses) until 2024.

Rabiot currently has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €28.1m.
